The Construction Experience
Our Construction Experience
We recently had the pleasure to share our construction experience with Tom Walker, the SERVPRO Reconstruction Specialist and dear friend.
In this podcast, we were able to briefly discuss what obstacles we face and the pros and cons while working with third party programs.
We have been doing construction for 10 years now and every year is another set of new procedures and guidelines from different insurances and programs. How do we keep up with multiple programs? The SERVPRO of Northeast Tucson, Oro Valley, and Marana East office staff are more than qualified to handle every new guideline. Restoration Manager is a very complex program that allows us to oversee and monitor the KPIs ( Key Performance Indicators ), and ensure that they are being met. With this CRM, every project can be up to date.
Most of our construction projects come from homes that have had water damage but were restored by SERVPRO. Once the mitigation has been taken care of, we are able to send the repairs estimator to prepare his quote and findings to the adjuster. He reviews his estimator's guidelines for the individual insurance carriers and submits the estimate. This normally takes no more than 3 days.
The obstacles we face when submitting these estimates mainly come from waiting for the approvals. Once the estimate has been submitted, it goes through at least 2 reviewers: the insurance carrier's adjuster and the program's estimate reviewer. As the volume of projects come in, more and more jobs are placed on a queue for review. The best practice for this is to do consistent follow ups.
As soon as the estimates received approval, we are able to proceed with repairs. Having Restoration Manager allows us to communicate with the customers directly by sending an email or text with the information.
When the construction has been completed, the real challenge then comes forth. Collections. It is a lengthy process to review a billing package. From reviewing the documents to justifying line items with the progress pictures.
While we have all the tools and resources to perform, nothing can really take the place of our hard working staff. We appreciate all they do for this company and how much it has grown because of their dedication and love for this industry.
Construction is definitely a needed service once the home has been mitigated and dried. Nothing really says "Like it never even happened," until the repairs have actually been completed and the homeowners are able to finally return to their actual home. Our experience here at SERVPRO of Northeast Tucson, Oro Valley, and Marana East has been an honor to provide that relief to our customers.
