Rainy Days and Mold Growth: Understanding Why Your Home is at Risk and How to Prevent It

5/16/2023 (Permalink)

Mold infestation on a wall and ceiling. To prevent mold growth, it’s important to regulate the humidity levels in your home.

Have you noticed mold growth in your home after it rains? You’re not alone. Many homeowners experience mold growth during periods of heavy rain or high humidity. In this blog, we’ll explore the reasons why mold grows in your house when it rains and what you can do to prevent it.

High Humidity Levels

One of the main reasons why you may find mold in your house when it rains is due to high humidity levels. When it rains, moisture levels in the air increase, which can cause humidity levels in your home to rise as well.

If your home has poor ventilation or insulation, the increased humidity can create the perfect environment for mold growth. To prevent mold growth, consider investing in a dehumidifier to regulate the humidity levels in your home.

Leaky Roofs and Windows

Another reason why mold may grow in your home when it rains is due to leaky roofs or windows. If your roof or windows are damaged, rainwater can seep into your home and create damp areas where mold can grow.

To prevent mold growth, it’s important to inspect your roof and windows regularly for any signs of damage. If you notice any leaks, be sure to repair them as soon as possible to prevent water from entering your home.

Poor Drainage

Poor drainage can also contribute to mold growth in your home when it rains. If your gutters and downspouts are clogged or damaged, rainwater can accumulate around your home’s foundation, creating damp areas where mold can grow.

To prevent mold growth, it’s important to keep your gutters and downspouts clean and free of debris. You can also consider installing a drainage system around your home’s foundation to prevent water from accumulating.

Improper Ventilation

Improper ventilation can also contribute to mold growth in your home when it rains. If your home has poor ventilation, moisture can become trapped inside, creating the ideal environment for mold growth.

To prevent mold growth, consider installing exhaust fans in your bathrooms and kitchen to vent moisture outside. You can also open windows and doors on dry days to increase ventilation and reduce humidity levels.

In conclusion, mold growth in your home during periods of heavy rain or high humidity is a common problem for many homeowners. To prevent mold growth, it’s important to regulate the humidity levels in your home, inspect your roof and windows regularly for any signs of damage, keep your gutters and downspouts clean and free of debris, and increase ventilation in your home. Remember, preventing mold growth is crucial in maintaining a healthy and comfortable home environment.

Cleaning Up After a Fire: A Step-by-Step Guide to Removing Soot from Your Home in Tucson, AZ

4/27/2023 (Permalink)

Black soot on a wall. Cleaning up soot after a fire can be a daunting task, but with these steps, you can ensure that your home is safe and free of hazardous particles.

Dealing with the aftermath of a fire in your home can be overwhelming, and cleaning up soot is one of the most challenging tasks you may face. Soot is a black, powdery substance that accumulates after a fire, and it can be hazardous if not handled correctly. Here are some steps to take to clean soot in your home after a fire.

Wear Protective Gear

Before you start cleaning up soot, make sure you are wearing appropriate protective gear. This includes gloves, a mask, and goggles to protect your eyes from the fine particles.

Ventilate the Area

Open all windows and doors to allow fresh air to circulate in the area. Turn on fans or use a dehumidifier to help dry out the space.

Assess the Damage

Before you start cleaning, assess the extent of the damage. If the fire was significant, you may need to call in professionals to assist with the cleanup.

Clean the Walls and Ceilings

Soot can cling to walls and ceilings, making them difficult to clean. Use a dry chemical sponge or a vacuum with a HEPA filter to remove the soot. Be gentle, as scrubbing too hard can cause the soot to spread and make the situation worse.

Clean the Floors

Sweep or vacuum the floors to remove loose soot particles. Use a damp mop with a mild detergent to clean hard surfaces such as tile or linoleum. For carpets and upholstery, use a steam cleaner to remove the soot.

Clean Household Items

Soot can accumulate on household items such as furniture, curtains, and bedding. Take them outside and gently shake off any loose soot particles. Vacuum or wipe them down with a dry chemical sponge. For items that are heavily soiled, you may need to have them professionally cleaned.

Clean HVAC Systems

Soot can also accumulate in your home's HVAC system, which can cause it to circulate throughout your home. Change the filters and have your HVAC system professionally cleaned to ensure that all soot particles are removed.

Dispose of Debris

Dispose of any debris, including damaged items, that may have been contaminated with soot. Follow your local guidelines for disposing of hazardous materials.

Cleaning up soot after a fire can be a daunting task, but with these steps, you can ensure that your home is safe and free of hazardous particles. If the damage is extensive, don't hesitate to call in professionals who can assist with the cleanup. Remember to take precautions and protect yourself from any potential health hazards.

Snow Damages Commercial Roof in Tucson?

12/20/2022 (Permalink)

We restore commercial storm damage 24-hours a day in Pima County.

Snow rarely makes it into Tucson and stays confined to the mountains and the higher valleys east and southeast of the city. However, in December 1971, nearly 7 inches of snow fell in Tucson! Our Northeast Tucson?and Oro Valley/Marana East technicians respond to commercial storm damage emergencies 24 hours a day and typically arrive onsite within four hours of your call for help. Although snow is rare, we thought local businesses might want to know about snow loads for commercial roofs. Here is some information about roof snow loads from the Insurance Institute of Business and Home Safety

When it comes to the weight of snow, the type of snow is as important as the depth of the snow. For instance, fresh powder snow is typically lighter than wet-packed snow, and ice is heavier than snow.

Snow Load Danger signs

Fresh snow?– more than four feet

Packed snow?– more than two feet

Ice?– one inch or more

Several factors contribute to the acting load on your roof, including snow drifts from adjacent buildings or mechanical equipment, heavy rain on snow, and melting snow that refreezes.?

If you don’t know your roof’s snow load, hire a structural engineer to verify the snow load threshold of the roofing system. This information will be important when determining if there is too much snow on the roof after an event.?

12/13/2022 (Permalink)

We respond to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in Pima County.

Our Northeast Tucson and Oro Valley/Marana East technicians are certified to restore storm damage quickly and efficiently in Tucson. 2022 has been a year of above-average lightning strikes in Arizona. As of August 10, 307,873 lightning strikes touched down across the state. Here are some lighting safety tips from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration:

  • Avoid isolated tall trees, hilltops, utility poles, cell phone towers, cranes, large equipment, ladders, scaffolding, or rooftops
  • Avoid open areas, such as fields
  • Never lie flat on the ground
  • Retreat to dense areas of smaller trees that are surrounded by larger trees, or retreat to low-lying areas but watch for flooding
  • Avoid water, and immediately get out of and away from bodies of water
  • Avoid wiring, plumbing, and fencing. Stay away from all metal objects, equipment, and surfaces that can conduct electricity.
  • Do not shelter in sheds, pavilions, tents, or covered porches, as they do not provide adequate protection from lightning
  • Seek fully enclosed, substantial buildings with wiring and plumbing. The interior wiring and plumbing in modern buildings will act as an earth ground.
  • A building is a safe shelter as long as you are not in contact with anything that can conduct electricity (e.g., electrical equipment or cords, plumbing fixtures, corded phones). Do not lean against concrete walls or floors (which may have metal bars inside).

Fire Extinguisher Saves Thanksgiving Day for Oro Valley Family?

11/15/2022 (Permalink)

We respond to fire damage emergencies 24-hours a day in Pima County.

Our Northeast Tucson and Oro Valley/Marana East team wants everyone to have a safe and fire-damage-free Thanksgiving this year. Knowing how to operate a portable fire extinguisher saves lives. Here are some fire extinguisher safety tips from the National Fire Protection Association:

Use a portable fire extinguisher when the fire is confined to a small area, such as a wastebasket, and is not growing; everyone has exited the building; the fire department has been called, and the room is not filled with smoke.

  • To operate a fire extinguisher, remember the word PASS:
  • Pull the pin. Hold the extinguisher with the nozzle pointing away from you, and release the locking mechanism
  • Aim low. Point the extinguisher at the base of the fire
  • Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly
  • Sweep the nozzle from side-to-side
  • For the home, select a multi-purpose extinguisher (can be used on all types of home fires) that is large enough to put out a small fire but not so heavy as to be difficult to handle
  • Choose a fire extinguisher that carries the label of an independent testing laboratory
  • Read the instructions that come with the fire extinguisher and become familiar with its parts and operation before a fire breaks out

How Will I Know If My Property Is Completely Dried When I Have Water Damage in My Redington Ranch Home?

11/8/2022 (Permalink)

We restore water damage 24-hours a day in Pima County.

Redington Ranch residents rely on us to restore water damage emergencies quickly and efficiently. Our Northeast Tucson and Oro Valley/Marana East follow a comprehensive six-step water damage restoration process. During Step 4, we set up powerful air movers and blowers and monitor and document the drying process to ensure the area is completely dried.

Most of the surfaces in homes and businesses are porous, so when they are exposed to water, the water can seep into them. Although these surfaces may be dry to the touch, they may retain moisture, which, left untreated, can cause the materials to break down, warp, or cause mold damage.

Drying and Dehumidification Process

Our professionals use room measurements, temperature, and relative humidity to determine the number of air movers and dehumidifiers to dry the area. We also monitor and document the drying process to ensure the damage is dried thoroughly. Here is some additional information from our website about our drying process.

Monitor Floor and Walls

We check the moisture levels to monitor the drying process.

  • Monitor Floors
  • Monitor Walls

Drying Equipment

  • Industrial-grade dehumidifiers help prevent secondary water damage like swelling and warping floors, walls, and furniture
  • High-speed air movers create airflow across walls, carpets, pads, and furniture, accelerating moisture evaporation

We respond to water damage emergencies 24-hours a day in Pima County.

Our Northeast Tucson and Oro Valley/Marana East follow a comprehensive six-step water damage restoration process. Here is what we do during Step 2 of the process.

We begin with a detailed inspection of your home or property to assess the damage. The assessment helps our professionals develop the best plan of action.

We Identify and Stop the Water Source

We will check for the source of moisture in your home or business. The source must be stopped before any restoration or drying of the building can be successful.

We inspect and test to determine the extent of damage and how far the moisture has traveled to ensure proper and complete restoration. In addition, we will check for safety concerns that may be evident.

Commercial Generator Maintenance Tips for Tucson Businesses?

10/17/2022 (Permalink)

We respond to commercial damage emergencies 24-hours a day in Pima County.

Power outages can disrupt business and affect productivity in the workplace. When operating as they should, commercial generators keep the power running when the power grid is down. Our Northeast Tucson and Oro Valley/Marana East teams offer these tips from the Insurance Institute of Business and Home Safety to prepare for power outages by servicing your generator:

The time to maintain a generator is well before a major storm or disaster strikes (when professional assistance may be unavailable, power lines are down, and access roads are blocked). Backup power can help maintain a consistent building temperature and reduce the risk of freezing pipes leading to business disruption and damage.

Permanent

  • Permanent generators should have a proper maintenance plan that includes weekly, monthly, and annual checks. See the manufacturer’s specifications for more information.
  • Run the unit on its maintenance plan weekly to ensure it is properly functioning in an emergency. Individual units may have a timer that allows a programmed test to be scheduled, and qualified personnel should oversee these scheduled weekly tests.
  • Check the generator enclosure for loose debris or other conditions that could cause the unit not to function correctly.

Portable

  • Store in a dry location
  • Set up a maintenance schedule to include periodic test runs for the unit

How Can I Tell if My Swimming Pool is Leaking in Oro Valley?

8/23/2022 (Permalink)

We restore water damage 24-hours a day in Pima County.

Our Northeast Tucson and Oro Valley/Marana East teams restore water damage in Oro Valley throughout the year. If your swimming pool leaks, it can weaken your pool and home’s foundation and waste thousands of gallons of water each month. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends following these steps to determine if your pool is leaking:

  • Grab a clear container and a marker
  • During the test period, turn off the pool auto-fill, do not manually add water to the pool, and avoid splashing water out of the pool
  • Put the container on the pool steps and mark the water level on the outside of the container
  • Now, fill the container with pool water up to the mark you just made so the levels match
  • Mark the water level inside the container
  • Now, wait and give evaporation time to work, usually two to three days. You’ll have to perform the test again if it rains or is windy.
  • Place the container on the pool steps. If the water in the pool is lower than the water in the container, you have a leak
  • If both the pool level and the container water levels are the same, you do not have a leak

Worst Monsoon Season Storm in Pima County?

8/5/2022 (Permalink)

We respond to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in Tucson.

Our Northeast Tucson and Oro Valley/Marana East teams respond to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. We typically arrive onsite within four hours of your call for help. One of the worst Monsoon Season storms to ever hit the Tucson area happened 60 years ago, between September 25 and 27, when Tropical Storm Claudia dropped up to seven inches of rain in the desert just west of Tucson near the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. The storm caused flash flooding, and the waters inundated Marana and Sells.

Here is some of the equipment we use to mitigate and restore flooding damage:

Water Extraction Equipment

We use powerful extraction equipment to speed the drying process by removing the bulk of the water from your home or business.

  • Submersible and gas-powered pumps for continuous pumping of high-level water
  • Truck-mounted and portable extraction units perform efficient water removal

Drying Equipment

We use industrial-strength air movers and dehumidifiers to remove the remaining moisture from ceilings, walls, and floors. Proper drying helps to prevent swelling and warping of floors, walls, and furniture.

  • High-speed air movers cause moisture to evaporate at a faster pace
  • Industrial grade dehumidifiers pull the water vapor from the air

Water Leak in Backyard Sprinkler System Causing Foundation Damage to Home in Oro Valley?

7/12/2022 (Permalink)

We are trusted leaders in water damage restoration in Pima County.

A leaking in-ground sprinkler system can water thousands of gallons of water and weaken your Oro Valley home’s foundation. Our Northeast Tucson and Oro Valley/Marana East offers these tips for determining if your in-ground sprinkler system leaks:

  • Find your main sprinkler system valve and shut it off
  • Once you shut off the sprinkler system valve, look at the low flow indicator on your water meter. If it keeps moving, the water leak is inside your home.
  • If the low flow indicator stops moving, the leak is in your main sprinkler system pipe
  • To check for visible irrigation system leaks, turn off your sprinkler system valve and wait at least two minutes. This allows the main sprinkler system pipe to refill with water.
  • Go to your controller and turn on the zone. Go to the zone you turned on and listen for water running.
  • Do you see water bubbling up from the ground? Are there any wet spots or pooling of water?
  • Look for broken sprinkler heads in the zone. If water is not hitting the target area or flowing out of the sprinkler heads, you will need to replace the sprinkler heads.
  • Repeat this process for each zone in your irrigation system
  • Call a certified irrigation contractor if you can’t fix the problem by replacing the sprinkler heads

2022 Monsoon Season Predictions for Tucson?

6/14/2022 (Permalink)

We respond to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in Pima County.

Our Northeast Tucson and Oro Valley/Marana East technicians have the training, equipment, and experience to mitigate and restore storm damage quickly and efficiently in Tucson. According to the National Weather Service, Arizona is going to have a very wet and active monsoon season this summer, with a 70 percent chance of precipitation expected to reach near or above normal across the Southwest. Here is some information from the Pima County website on monsoon safety:

  • Do not attempt to drive through a flooded road. The depth of water is not always obvious. The roadbed may be washed out under the water, and you could be stranded or trapped.
  • Six inches of water can cause most cars to lose control
  • Two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles including sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and pick-up trucks
  • Don't drive around barricades. Barricades are there for your protection. Turn around and go the other way.
  • Treat non-working or flashing traffic signals at intersections as a four-way stop. Proceed with caution.
  • If floodwaters rise around your car but the water is not moving, abandon the car and move to higher ground. Do not leave the car and enter moving water.

What Are the Smoke Odor Damage and Removal Methods Used in Oro Valley?

6/7/2022 (Permalink)

We restore smoke odor and damage 24-hours a day in Pima County.

Our Northeast Tucson and Oro Valley/Marana East technicians have the specialized training and skill required to neutralize and remove smoke odor from homes and businesses in Oro Valley. Here are descriptions of smoke removal equipment we use:

Air Scrubber or Filter

  • Heating, ventilation, air conditioning system (HVAC) air scrubber or a high-efficiency particulate air filter (HEPA) air purifier can capture larger smoke molecules. There will still be some residual odor from smaller molecules or surface residues.

Ozone Generator

  • An ozone generator is a fast and highly effective smoke odor restoration method. These machines emit ozone, which follows the same paths through the air as smoke and oxidizes any residual traces in the air or on surfaces.

Thermal Fogging

  • Thermal fogging is an intensive treatment involving fogging machines. After residents evacuate, smoke cleaning professionals fill a structure with petroleum distillates that neutralize odors and ventilate the area.

Hydroxyl Generator

  • A hydroxyl generator is a slower and gentler alternative to ozone. These machines rely on ultraviolet light to generate hydroxyl radicals that eliminate smoke odors. It will take about three to five days of continuous operation to achieve the same results as a single ozone treatment.

Vapor Modification

  • Vapor modification is another odor elimination method that relies on aromatic compounds and a blower or fan to neutralize smoke odor

Cooking Oil Fire in Bonita Ridge Home?

5/31/2022 (Permalink)

We restore fire damage 24-hours a day in Pima County.

Our team in Northeast Tucson and Oro Valley/Marana East responds to fire damage emergencies throughout the year in Tucson. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), ranges or cook-tops account for three out of every five reported home fires involving cooking equipment. Here are some tips for cooking with oil from the NFPA:

  • Always stay in the kitchen when frying on the stovetop
  • Keep an eye on what you fry. If you see wisps of smoke or the oil smells, immediately turn off the burner and carefully remove the pan from the burner. Smoke is a danger sign that the oil is too hot.
  • Heat the oil slowly to the temperature you need for frying or sautéing
  • Add food gently to the pot or pan, so the oil does not splatter
  • Always cook with a lid beside your pan. If you have a fire, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner. Do not remove the cover because the fire could start again. Let the pan cool for a long time. Never throw water on the fire.
  • Get everyone out of your home if the fire does not go out or you don’t feel comfortable sliding a lid over the pan. Call the fire department from outside.

Space Heater Fire Damages Home in Tucson?

4/13/2022 (Permalink)

We restore fire damage 24-hours a day in Pima County.

Spring is here in Tucson, but evenings are still chilly. Some of us use space heaters to warm a room in our home during the cooler nights. Our team in Northeast Tucson and Oro Valley/Marana East offers these heating equipment safety tips from the National Fire Protection Association:

  • Never use your oven to heat your home
  • Have a qualified professional install stationary space heating equipment, water heaters, or central heating equipment according to the local codes and manufacturer’s instructions
  • Have heating equipment and chimneys cleaned and inspected every year by a qualified professional
  • Remember to turn portable heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed
  • Always use the right kind of fuel, specified by the manufacturer, for fuel-burning space heaters
  • Ensure the fireplace has a sturdy screen to stop sparks from flying into the room. Ashes should be cool before putting them in a metal container. Keep the container a safe distance away from your home.
  • Install wood-burning stoves following the manufacturer’s instructions or have a professional do the installation. All fuel-burning equipment should be vented to the outside to avoid carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.
  • Install and maintain CO alarms to avoid the risk of CO poisoning. Do not light the appliance if you smell gas in your gas heater. Leave the home immediately and call your local fire department or gas company.

Pool Leak Causing Water Damage in Catalina Foothills Home?

4/5/2022 (Permalink)

We respond to water damage emergencies 24-hours a day in Pima County.

Our local team in Northeast Tucson and Oro Valley/Marana East has been helping the residents in Catalina Foothills restore water damage for years. Slow leaks in pools may damage your home’s foundation. Here are some ways you can tell if your pool has a nonvisible leak from the Salt River Project:

  • Grab a clear container and a marker
  • During the test period, turn off the pool auto-fill, do not manually add water to the pool, and avoid splashing water out of the pool
  • Put the container on the pool steps and mark the water level on the outside of the container
  • Now, fill the container with pool water up to the mark you just made, so the levels match
  • Mark the water level inside the container
  • Now, wait and give evaporation time to work, usually two to three days. If it rains or it’s windy you’ll have to perform the test again.
  • Place the container on the pool steps. If the water in the pool is lower than the water in the container, you have a leak
  • If both the pool level and the container water levels are the same, you do not have a leak

Haboob Storm Damage in Tucson?

3/16/2022 (Permalink)

We are leaders in storm damage restoration in Pima County.

Last year, a massive dust storm, also known as a haboob, moved through Tucson, followed by the first big rainstorm of the Monsoon season. Dust storms can happen anywhere in the United States, but they are more common in the Southwest. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Haboobs occur due to thunderstorm outflow winds, and these strong winds can start a dust storm that can drastically reduce visibility.

SERVPRO® of Northeast Tucson and SERVPRO® of Oro Valley/Marana East offer these tips from the NWS for staying safe while during a dust storm:

  • If dense dust is observed blowing across or approaching a roadway, pull your vehicle off the pavement as far as possible, stop, turn off lights, set the emergency brake, take your foot off of the brake pedal to be sure the tail lights are not illuminated.
  • Don’t enter the dust storm area if you can avoid it
  • If you can’t pull off the roadway, proceed at a speed suitable for visibility, turn on lights, and sound horn occasionally. Use the painted center line to help guide you. Look for a safe place to pull off the roadway.
  • Never stop on the traveled portion of the roadway

Fire in Ventana Canyon Home?

3/8/2022 (Permalink)

We are leaders in fire damage restoration in Pima County.

A fire started in my Ventana Canyon home when some old 9-volt batteries were accidentally tossed into the trash. Other metal objects in the garbage touched the two posts, causing a short circuit that made enough heat to start the fire.

SERVPRO® of Northeast Tucson and SERVPRO® of Oro Valley/Marana East offer these tips from the National Fire Protection Association to safely store and discard 9-volt batteries.

Storing 9-volt batteries

·      Keep batteries in original packaging until you are ready to use them. If loose, keep the posts covered with masking, duct, or electrical tape. Prevent the posts from coming in contact with metal objects.

·      Keep them someplace safe where they won’t be tossed around

·      Store batteries standing up

·      9-volt batteries should not be stored loose in a drawer. Do not store them in containers with other batteries.

Disposal

·      9-volt batteries should not be thrown away with the trash. They can come in contact with other batteries or pieces of metal.

·      9-volt batteries can be taken to a collection site for household hazardous waste

·      To be safe, cover the positive and negative posts with masking, duct, or electrical tape before getting rid of batteries

·      Some states do not allow any type of battery to be disposed of with trash. Check with your city or town for the best way to get rid of batteries.

Storm Damage Preparedness Tips for Tucson?

2/15/2022 (Permalink)

Our technicians are trained and certified to restore storm damage in Pima County.

Although the monsoon season is about four months away, it is never too early to prepare your home for severe weather. SERVPRO® of Northeast Tucson and SERVPRO® of Oro Valley/Marana East’s technicians respond to storm damage emergencies each year and offer these tips from the Insurance Information Institute for protecting your home:

Exterior Inspection and Repair

Water can be prevented from entering a structure’s exterior through routine inspection and maintenance and making repairs as needed.

  • Caulk and seal windows
  • Inspect the roof for missing and aging shingles
  • Check rain gutters and drainage systems and remove any debris
  • Check downspouts and clear any clogs and make sure they are draining away from the structure
  • Check sprinkler systems and make sure the sprinklers are not spraying water onto the structure and that water is not pooling around the structure’s foundation
  • Make sure water drains away from the building.Water is invasive and will easily find its way into a structure when water is allowed to pool around the foundation. After a storm, or when the ground is already saturated by rainwater, the water may enter into the foundation wall through any cracks.

Supply Line Failure in Tucson Home?

2/1/2022 (Permalink)

We restore water damage 24-hours a day in Pima County.

SERVPRO® of Northeast Tucson and SERVPRO® of Oro Valley/Marana East’s technicians have the training, experience, and equipment to restore water damage emergencies quickly and efficiently. Routine inspection of your washing machine supply lines may prevent severe water damage. The Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety offers these helpful tips for maintaining your washing machine supply lines:

  • Look for signs the supply hose may be ready to fail—blisters in the hose, worn tubing, stress cracks, or a loose connection
  • Replace the supply hose with a reinforced steel braided hose if it shows any sign of wear
  • Tighten the connection if it feels loose. The most common site of failure is near the connection where the hose bends.
  • Replace supply hoses every five years, even if there is no obvious deterioration or wear. Some signs of deterioration may occur from the inside out and may not be visible until it is too late. When replacing washing machine supply hoses, always choose a reinforced steel braided hose over the traditional un-reinforced rubber hose. These hoses will last longer and are far less likely to result in a catastrophic water loss.

We are trusted leaders in storm damage restoration in Pima County.

At SERVPRO® of Northeast Tucson and SERVPRO® of Oro Valley/Marana East, we know that our fast emergency response time saves our customers money by reducing the potential for secondary damage and more time-consuming repairs. The National Weather Service lists January 1993 as one of the top ten weather/water/climate stories to impact the Tucson metro area during the 20th century.

The Two Week Flood of January 1993

Between January 5 and 19, several Pacific storm systems caused widespread flooding across the metro area. Between four and seven inches of rain fell across the metro area and the surrounding mountains. Runoff from snowmelt from the Santa Catalina Mountains added to the flood woes. Damage to public transportation and flood control facilities, private property, and inconvenience totaled around 14 million in emergency repairs and long-term improvements. Improved design and construction practices developed in response to the October 1983 flood helped minimize the amount of damage incurred and saved lives. No lives were lost during this flood event.
